A sustainable building revolution from Ghana<\/strong><\/p>\n

An idea born in response to climate change and changing social structures!<\/strong><\/p>\n

In a workshop at the Institute for Organic Farming and Earthbuilding at Lake Agege Farm we will explore simple, sustainable, modern and inexpensive construction using the innovative Ghanaian laterite bricks produced by the small Ghanaian start-up producer MAGGLO<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Over the course of 10 days we will provide an in-depth introduction to the construction of technologically advanced masonry using bricks compacted from local laterite and profiled to create an interlocking brick system<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In the workshop we will get to know the special qualities of laterite bricks, their various uses in house construction, their production and key properties. We will then conduct a trial by building a small farm building together at Lake Agege Farm.<\/p>\n

The course is led by the experienced earth building specialist Britta C. Wolff. She works for the German Earth Building Association (Dachverband Lehm) and the Wangeliner Workcamps in Germany, and also taught ecological construction for many years at the University of Wismar and has published numerous articles on earth building.<\/p>\n

Tutors<\/strong><\/p>\n

Edward Ofori-Nyarko and his wife Eva Kotzur are the founders and owners of the laterite brick production company MAGGLO. Mr Ofori-Nyarko will talk about the production, idea and application possibilities of laterite bricks. In addition, he will lead a field trip to Gomoah-Akuti where the MAGGLO laterite bricks are produced.<\/p>\n

Organisation<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dr Maik-Jens Springmann is responsible for the organisation of the workshop and will introduce the participants to the concept behind Lake Agege Farm. In addition, he will lead a day trip to Cape Coast and gives us an insight into the exciting colonial history of the country.<\/p>\n

Catering<\/strong><\/p>\n

Our farm manager Isaac Dadzie and his wife Augustina will take care of our physical well-being with wholesome, local food. Freshly harvested fruit from our farm and drinking water is always available.<\/p>\n

Accommodation is in a hostel in nearby Mankessim.<\/p>\n
